Sub-editorial

HELLO, good evening and welcome to Octopus's Garden, the subzeen with its very own Railway Rivals game. It's a subzeen to Jim Burgess' The Abbysinian Prince. Produced by Peter Sullivan, peter@burdonvale.co.uk. It's also available on the web at http://www.burdonvale.co.uk/octopus/.

Games News

Manorcon 2011 has been and gone. Further details of the 2012 event will follow Real Soon Now, but we already have the dates - Friday 20th to Monday 23rd July. This will be the 30th Manorcon, which is a notable landmark. Not sure if anything special is planned to mark this. I know that, when I was on t'committee, we'd pretty much given up on doing special events as part of the convention. Since, perhaps understandably, all the attendees really seemed to want to do was play games. The most bizarre one I can remember was when we borrowed an idea from SF conventions' hall costumes concept, and had a prize for the "Most Outrageously Dressed Attendee." This somewhat backfired, when it was "won" by someone who wasn't even aware that they had entered.

The big change for Manorcon over the past few years has been the shift from the traditional home of Birmingham University to Leicester University. A similar transistion now awaits the other grand old lady of British games conventions, Midcon, which is moving from its traditional home of the Royal Angus Hotel in Birmingham to the Hallmark Hotel, Derby for its 2011 outing. The dates are Friday 11th to Sunday 13th November 2011, and a flyer and other booking details are available on the web at http://harrington.fireflyinternet.co.uk/MidCon11-flyer.pdf. This year, the even is also hosting the EuroDipCon XIX, which will hopefully bring Diplomacy back to the forefront of this convention.
