Sub-editorial

HELLO, good evening and welcome to Octopus's Garden, the subzeen with its very own Railway Rivals opening. It's a subzeen to Jim Burgess' The Abbysinian Prince. Produced by Peter Sullivan, peter@burdonvale.co.uk. It's also available on the web at http://www.burdonvale.co.uk/octopus/.

Convention News

Manorcon has been and gone, and so the next event on the British board games convention calendar is Midcon, being held at the usual venue of the Thistle Hotel in Birmingham, over the weekend of 19th to 21st November 2010. This venue was previously known as the Royal Angus Hotel, in which guise it hosted many Midcons, but also several Novacons (the long-running Science Fiction Convention sponsored by the Birmingham Science Fiction Group) in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Rumour has it that the original Midcon committee's pitch to the Royal Angus was along the lines of "We're about as badly dressed as the SF fans, but we drink even more and are much less trouble."

Novacon itself has long moved on, is now in its second year at the Park Inn in Nottingham, with this year's event (the 40th) scheduled for 12th to 14th November 2010. Having rescued its web address back from a cyber-squatter (who picked the domain up when a previous committee's ISP let it lapse) it's now back on the web at its rightful place of http://novacon.org.uk.

Waiting Lists

Railway Rivals (France): William Whyte, Geoff Challinger, Bill McKinley. (2 wanted).

I think this pretty much has to be the last call for this, as several people on the list have been waiting over a year. If you want in on this, please contact me at peter@burdonvale.co.uk.

Postal rules are at http://www.burdonvale.co.uk/octopus/rr.html.

That was Octopus's Garden #65, a Startling Press production.
