Sub-editorial

HELLO, good evening and welcome to Octopus's Garden, the subzeen with its very own Railway Rivals game. It's a subzeen to Jim Burgess' The Abbysinian Prince. Produced by Peter Sullivan, peter@burdonvale.co.uk. It's also available on the web at http://www.burdonvale.co.uk/octopus/.

More Convention News

Continuing our accidental tradition of letting you know about far-flung Diplomacy events just after they happen, this time the spotlight falls on the French National Championships, held over the weekend of 10th to 12th December. The event takes place at the Hotel la Louisiane, Paris, the same venue as last year. French tournament diplomacy tends to be a very different beast than either the British or American tournament play, with the C-Diplo scoring system and early finishes making for a much more frenetic pace. (Not better or worse; just different.)

Further details (in French, natch) are available at the website, http://www.championnat-de-france.org/fr/championnat-de-france-de-diplomatie-2010.php. Although wimps like me (who've forgotten whatever schoolboy French they ever knew) may prefer the English version of the website at http://www.championnat-de-france.org/en/french-championship-of-diplomacy-2010.php. For non-French players, the convention fee is waived, which is a nice gesture that French tournaments have always prided themselves on.
